8 Dos and Don’ts of Going to Concerts

Everyone should go to a concert at least once in their life. Seeing your favorite artists play live can be a memorable experience. However, there are a few things you should know before you attend a concert. We’ve made a list of things you should always bring to a concert, as well as things that you should leave at home.

8 Things You Need at a Concert

Once you’ve bought your concert ticket you’ll need to pack these concert essentials to have the best time possible.

1. Money

Concerts can last anywhere from 30 minutes to a couple of hours. (1) So, you’ll probably need to buy something to eat or drink during the performance. Keep in mind that most venues don’t allow you to bring in food or drinks. Although concert venues usually accept credit cards, it’s smarter to bring some cash with you. It’ll also be useful if you want to buy some merchandise or souvenirs.

2. Comfortable Shoes

Unless you shell out big bucks for your concert ticket, you’ll likely have to stand for the entire duration of the concert. In this situation, comfortable footwear is paramount. We recommend that you wear sneakers, so you can dance the night away to your favorite songs.

3. Binoculars

If you buy cheaper concert tickets, you’ll probably be far away from the stage.(2) In this case, it’s useful to have binoculars that help you get a glimpse of the band.

4. Warm Coat

Outdoor concerts are great, but if you don’t pack a jacket or sweatshirt, you could end up freezing. So, research the concert venue and think carefully about what jacket you should bring to stay cozy.

5. Marker

You’ll probably get a chance to meet the band before or after their performance. Have a pen or marker ready in case you are lucky enough to get an autograph from your favorite artist.

6. Backpack

Backpacks are a great place to safely store all of your belongings. Also, if you decide to get some band merchandise, you’ll need a place to put it.

7. Stuff for Autographing

Many fans like to get autographs from the artists on their bodies, but if you want the autograph to last forever the best choice is to bring a band T-shirt or hat.

8. Camera

Although we all have cameras on our smartphones, the quality of the photos can’t match those taken with a digital camera. That’s why we recommend taking a camera and using it to record all your memories. However, some venues won’t allow you to bring in a camera, so be sure to check their policy online before packing your camera for the show. (3)

8 Things You Don’t Need at a Concert

Now that you know what things to bring to a concert, let’s also talk about things that you shouldn’t bring.

1. Lots of Clothes

Don’t bring a ton of clothes with you, especially if you are going to a concert in summer. The venue will likely be hot, and you’ll end up sweaty.

2. Food

Before entering a concert venue, check if they allow food. If the answer is yes, you can bring a small snack. (4) Don’t waste your time on bringing full meals or food that’s difficult to eat while standing.

3. Expensive Jewelry

You should leave your favorite bracelet or earrings at home. Although showing off your expensive jewelry may seem tempting, you can easily lose it at the concert.

4. High Heels or Flip Flops

Wearing high heels or uncomfortable footwear can ruin your whole night. You want to spend your time dancing and jumping around, not worrying about sore feet or blisters.

5. Expensive Handbags

Although you need somewhere to put your stuff, wearing a designer handbag to a concert is a disaster waiting to happen. Someone could easily spill their drink on your bag or burn it with a cigarette. So, it’s better to bring a bag that you don’t mind getting dirty or torn.

6. Noisemakers

People go to concerts to listen to music, not to hear your bullhorn or noise maker. Bringing these things to concerts can ruin the entire performance for you and everyone around you.

7. Credit Cards

Credit cards can be more convenient for purchasing food, drinks, and merchandise at a concert. However, it’s hard to track your spending when you pay with a credit card. You also risk losing or getting your credit card stolen at a concert.

8. Designer Clothes

Last, but not least, we recommend that you leave your designer clothes in your closet during concerts. When you are standing in a large crowd your fancy clothes can easily get damaged by someone spilling their drink or food on you.
